Townsend's Warbler

This cute little bird was eating insects in the tree ferns today. He let me get close enough to take several photos. He is very small - not much bigger than a hummingbird. A search at www.identify.whatbird.com revealed that this is a "Townsend's Warbler", a bird that breeds from Alaska south through the Pacific Northwest and spends its winters from California south into Mexico.
